It is all about the quantity – your plant needs to measure and control the volume flow of food oil through the pipeline exactly.

Hygiene plays an important role in the production of food. This applies in particular to baby food.

Sensor and valve must work as a team to ensure that exactly the required quantity flows.

Electromagnetic flowmeters (EMF) are not usually suitable: Many oils are not conductive enough for EMF measurements.

Mechanical measuring techniques do not comply with the hygiene standards of the food industry.

Coriolis flowmeters are expensive to purchase and difficult to handle due to their size and weight. In their conventional form, they are also less energy-efficient: Due to the tube contraction, they additionally demand high pumping capacity.

How does the FLOWave flowmeter compare to a conventional Coriolis meter? We tested both devices one after the other at a customer’s plant with soya bean oil (viscosity approx. 100 mPa/s). The result: The flow is 30 times faster with FLOWave.

Perfectly hygienic thanks to SAW technology

Hygiene is the top priority in the production of food. The good news: FLOWave measures under completely hygienic conditions. Its stainless steel measuring tube does not require any sensor elements. Your advantages: No pressure loss, no maintenance, easy cleaning. How does it work? The flowmeter is based on patented SAW technology.

Measuring with SAW technology? Measuring without sensors in the measuring tube: This is enabled by Bürkert’s SAW technology. SAW is the abbreviation for “Surface Acoustic Waves”. These are surface acoustic waves that help to measure the flow of fluids. The principle originates from nature and occurs, among other
things, in seismic activities.

System solution for precise measuring

When the sensor (1), dosing valve (2) and controller work as a team, the exact amount of food oil flows. Bürkert therefore offers you a fully-configured system solution. This is then simply integrated into your plant. You can install the system horizontally, vertically or diagonally – FLOWave always delivers exact results.

Dosing food oil with FLOWave: 7 x added value

Regardless of the conductivity of the medium, FLOWave measures the volume flow with an accuracy of 0.4% of the measured value. The temperature tolerance here is less than 1 ° C.

FLOWave consists of a stainless steel tube. It does not require any sensors that come into contact with the medium and thus measures the flow in completely hygienic conditions. This is confirmed by various certificates. ASME BPE, 3A and EHEDG.

FLOWave devices utilise the Bürkert device platform EDIP. It facilitates handling of the devices and their integration into an existing fieldbus system. EDIP is our contribution to Industry 4.0.

Compact and lightweight, the flow meter fits into any system and is easy to install. A FLOWave device measures just two inches in size and weighs 3.4 kg. By way of comparison: A two-inch Coriolis system weighs 70 kg.

FLOWave measures the differentiation factor and therefore detects changes to the fluid very quickly. This simplifies the separation of production steps and makes your system more productive.

The high-resolution 2.4" display offers flexible operation with intuitive, graphic user guidance. Freely definable measured value names and the ability to optionally display one to four measured values, a trend curve and the configuration interface allow for a customized display. The WLAN module also allows you to access measurement parameters remotely using a web browser. This is useful when FLOWave is mounted at inaccessible points in the process.

FLOWave measures the acoustic transmission factor. This allows it to detect bubbles, particles or solids in the liquid. If defined process variables are exceeded or undercut, you can intervene quickly.
