Cutting costs with correctly configured temperature control

The topic of temperature control is a constant presence when you are active in food and beverage production - for example pasteurisation. With a Bürkert solution, you can achieve consistently high product quality with the help of correctly configured temperature control. Our solution also reduces the energy and maintenance costs of your plant. This is because we understand that your production process is not only focused on ever-increasing hygiene and quality requirements, but also on maximum efficiency of operation.
Discover here how Bürkert can help you implement precise and economical temperature control.

The challenge: Achieving high product quality economically with correctly configured temperature control

If you want to reconcile high product quality with efficient production processes, you need precise temperature control. To do this, you must overcome many challenges.

The solution: Temperature control with a system solution

A Bürkert solution with control valves configured exactly to meet the needs of the plant brings many advantages compared to conventional solutions – both for plant operators and for machinery and equipment suppliers.

With our online tool you can determine the correct valve configuration for your individual application by entering a few parameters. Discover more about valve sizing now.

Configuring control valves precisely

You can only regulate your temperature-control processes precisely and operate your plant efficiently when your control valves are configured to suit your individual application.

The following example uses a real-life calculation to demonstrate how the aforesaid factors change with process valve configurations that are correct, too small or too large.

1. Valve configuration is too small                      2. Valve configuration is correct                      3. Valve configuration is too large

Flow reserve

1. Valve configuration is too small

The valve has a flow reserve of less than ten percent and, therefore, offers insufficient reliability and flexibility for closed-loop control of the plant.

2. Valve configuration is correct

The valve has an adequate flow reserve of more than ten percent. At the same time, the resolution of the control valve over a wide stroke range is fully exploited.

3. Valve configuration is too large

Although the flow reserve is more than adequate, the small stroke range means that the resolution of the control valve is not fully exploited. The valve is oversized, leading to unnecessarily high investments and operating costs.

Reduced energy consumption with a solenoid valve solution:

Compressed air must be created using electricity – a primary cost factor for operating the plant. Conventional valve technology requires a constant supply of compressed air to control the delivery of steam via the process valve, thereby guaranteeing precise temperature control of the food being produced. In contrast, Bürkert employs solenoid valve technology, which only consumes compressed air when the valve position needs to change. This reduces energy consumption and, therefore, operating costs.

Lower manufacturing costs with welded solutions

In this example calculation, we show how you can make savings as a machinery and equipment supplier by choosing a welded Bürkert solution made of stainless steel rather than a stainless steel solution with flange connections for use in a temperature control unit.

Particularly efficient: Control valves with electromotive actuator

Bürkert valves for temperature control are available with various actuators: With an electromotive actuator or as an electro-pneumatically actuated solenoid valve. Bürkert electromotive control valves are particularly energy efficient thanks to a ball screw. A disc spring installed in the actuator ensures optimum tightness at the seat without requiring any electrical power.
