Media supply in laboratory devices: Compact and cost-effective

Your laboratory devices continuously require various liquid and gaseous media. Have you already optimised the media supply in your analysis device in order to save costs and space?

Your advantages

  • No unplanned downtime due to low energy consumption and a 100% duty cycle
  • Energy cost savings can be achieved through the use of impulse variants
  • More space in the device with consistent performance
  • No heat input into the medium thanks to innovations in actuator technology

A reliable media supply is essential for In-Vitro Diagnostics: This is the only way to ensure error-free and reproducible analysis results. Each process unit has different requirements in terms of pressure, temperature, flow rate and particle content of the media. At the same time, laboratories must be able to handle high sample throughputs in a short period of time in order to work cost-effectively.

How can you make your media supply more efficient? Discover how to save costs and space in the analysis device.

Media supplied according to demand

The term media supply refers to the supply of liquids and gases to the corresponding process units in your device – using a combination of valves, pumps, sensors and filters. This ensures that the right media always reaches the process units inside the device with the required pressure level, flow rate, temperature and particle content.

Three main challenges facing media supply in laboratory devices

✓ Flow rate and space requirements
The process media must reach your laboratory device quickly. This necessary task often takes up valuable space inside your analysis device.

✓ Downtime
Many valves must be energised permanently – but this also increases the risk of components overheating and unexpected downtime of your analysis device.

✓ Energy consumption
A permanent supply of power results in high energy consumption and costs. In addition, the laboratory device can overheat, thereby putting your test results at risk.

This is how we support you to overcome your challenges

For us, being well supplied also means: We know your challenges and help shape your economic success. Bürkert solutions offer you the following added values:

✓ No unplanned downtime
Bürkert micro-valves can be energised permanently. Thanks to their low energy consumption, they do not overheat or fail. Benefit from a 100% duty cycle!

✓ More space in the device with consistent performance
Through system solutions and compact components with high flow rates, you can make efficient use of the available space and increase your performance.

✓ Saving energy costs
The Bürkert impulse valve requires only a brief electrical pulse to open and close. The lower power consumption also helps to reduce your energy costs.

✓ Heat input into the medium
Bürkert valves therefore prevent unnecessary heat input into the medium. Thanks to innovations in actuator technology, the power consumption, and thus the heat transfer of our valves, has been reduced significantly.

Saving costs

How to reduce electricity costs and wear in media supply

The impulse variants of Bürkert valves offer lower power consumption. Since only one electrical pulse is required to open and close the valve. Permanent energising of the micro-valve, as is the case with conventional solutions, is not necessary.

A power supply unit can only supply a certain number of valves with power continuously. To control more valves, you need more power supply units, which creates additional costs. Since Bürkert impulse valves only receive brief pulses, you can also control a large number of valves with just one power supply unit.

Well supplied in a small space

Create valuable space in your analysis device – with Bürkert components! Despite their compact design, they still offer exceptional flow rates thanks to optimised flow paths.

How much space and costs can you save with Bürkert? We have calculated it for you.

The requirements: Required flow rate: Q = 4 l/min = 0.24 m³/h; Input pressure: 2 bar: Output pressure: 0 bar; Medium: Water (density at room temperature: roughly 1,000 kg/m³).

Required Kv value:

When using a solution from a competitor, you need three valves or a much larger valve.

With the Bürkert solution, you require just one compact valve Type 6628.

The result:

With the Bürkert solution, you require less valves and save costs as well as valuable space in your analysis device. The reason: The space-saving Bürkert valves offer a high flow rate and low current consumption. Thus more functions are possible in the same device, or a smaller device can be used from the outset.
