pH and Conductivity meters from Bürkert

Bürkert supplies pH and conductivity meters that offer a compact, low-cost measurement solution. With no external transmitters required, the Type 8202 pH and redox potential device and Type 8222 conductivity meter have been designed for easy commissioning and swift installations. In this article, Greg Wainhouse, Water Field Segment Manager at Bürkert, explains how these devices measure up.

Bürkert has been pushing new boundaries in fluid control and measurement for more than 70 years. Over the years, our innovative measurement devices have become smaller, simpler to install and increasingly more user friendly with the advent of inbuilt digital displays. What hasn’t changed in all this time is our complete commitment to quality, which motivates our strive for perfection.
Bürkert 8202 pH or ORP Device

The Type 8202 is a compact device for the measurement of pH or redox potential (ORP) in either clean or contaminated liquids or liquids containing solids, sulphides or proteins. The Bürkert 8202 combines 120 mm standard PG 13.5 pH/redox-probes with an S8 connector (we recommend the Type 8203) along with an integral PT1000 temperature sensor to deliver reliable and repeatable pH and ORP measurements.

Designed for direct connection to a PLC or small PID controller, this intelligent device provides a modular Human-Machine Interface (HMI), enabling straightforward calibration and for parameterisation data to be viewed. The Type 8202 pH or ORP meter also enables you to simulate process values and diagnostic functions with ease.

Bürkert 8222 Conductivity Meter

The Type 8222 conductivity meter is a compact solution for measuring the conductivity of clean water and slightly concentrated liquids. The Bürkert 8222 comprises of a sensor that is plugged in and pined to the transmitter, as well as a cell with two electrodes and a PT1000 temperature probe.

The sensor itself is available with three different cell constants, for a wide application range, which are fitted with either stainless steel or graphite electrodes accordingly. While the inbuilt display makes programming and visualising processed data a simple and seamless process.

Designed for purpose ph and conductivity meters

“We can have two 4...20 mA analogue outputs from the 8202, which provide your primary pH or ORP value,” says Greg Wainhouse, Water Field Segment Manager at Bürkert. “Then you can have a second analogue output, which can be a temperature readout. That is important because temperature is a key measurement to determine the oxidation rate for ORP and for pH accuracy. You also have two transistors for alarms and diagnostic output alerts.

“There is a wide range of standardised fittings that these devices work with. The S022 is a flow chamber available in a variety of materials, such as stainless steel and PVC. We designed the 8202 and 8222 to fit into this adapter according to the customer’s piping system. It’s the same fitting whether you use it for pH, ORP or conductivity measurements.

“Our competitors use quite a bulky system in comparison. It is very similar to ours except that it’s blind, so there is no display on it. You can take the top off it and add a display but that’s not what it’s been designed for primarily. Whereas, our ELEMENT design is designed for purpose. It’s a lot smaller, a lot neater and offers better integral protection.

“These devices are available directly from the eShop, so you don’t need an account manager to provide you with a quotation,” Greg concludes.
