Thermal mass flow controllers and meters with capillary sensor for aggressive gases and gas mixtures

Discover why our Type 8743 and Type 8744 mass flow controllers and mass flow meters are especially suited to aggressive gases and gas mixtures.

Type 8743 and Type 8744 on grey Background

Type 8743 and Type 8744 serve both as a mass flow controller (MFC) with a proportional valve and a mass flow meter (MFM).

Both types rely on a media-separated capillary sensor made of 316L/1.4404 stainless steel with a nominal flow rate (QNom) ranging from 0.01 lN/min to 100 lN/min (nitrogen).

Ideal for aggressive gases thanks to non-contact measuring principle

Capillary sensors use a non-contact measuring principle. The sensor components themselves have no direct contact with the gas. This makes Type 8743 and Type 8744 particularly chemically resistant to many aggressive gases.

No real-gas calibration necessary: can be deployed flexibly and in a variety of applications

Due to the laminar flow conditions in the sensor channel (=capillary), the sensor characteristics (output signal vs volume flow rate) behave almost linearly. This allows conversion factors between the calibration gas and the operating gas to be used.

The devices can therefore also be used for gas mixtures or special gases, such as ammonia (NH3) or sulphur dioxide (SO2), since the calibration is performed with nitrogen.

Simple adjustment of gas conversion factors

The gas conversion factors are programmed during factory calibration according to customer specifications. This means no additional work is required during commissioning. The gas conversion factors can be amended at any time by the client on site, either via the Bürkert Communicator or via the client’s plant control system.
