Bürkert improves functionality of ELEMENT controllers

Since its launch in 2008, Bürkert's ELEMENT range of positioners and process controllers has revolutionised the design and operation of many automated processes, especially hygienic applications and those that benefit from a decentralised control structure. With a process of continuous improvement, Bürkert has recently improved the functionality of the Type 869x positioners and controllers.

Initially designed to operate Bürkert's CLASSIC process valves, the ELEMENT range has also become established as a control mechanism for 3rd party process valves, especially in the food and beverage industry. Rapidly becoming a global benchmark for this type of intelligent process control valve, the ELEMENT range has set the standard for the major manufacturers.

The latest improvements include ATEX and IECEx approvals for operation in Zones 2/22 and 1/21 where potentially explosive atmospheres may exist as well as an extension to the ambient operating temperature range, down to -10°C. There has also been a considerable increase in the number of diagnostic features as well as the integration of this device family to the Bürkert COMMUNICATOR tool which can configure and set the operational parameters for each controller and positioner.

The latest diagnostic functions allow the status to be displayed using standardised symbols, according to NAMUR recommendation (NE107) as well as the ability to output the diagnostic messages using binary signals. In addition there are LED lights which provide an instant and more visible indication of valve status.

In terms of communication, the Type 869x range has compatibility with AS-i, DeviceNet and Profibus, allowing the controllers to be integrated into a range of applications and process structures. Using this range of fieldbus protocols allows individual valves to be connected using just one or two cables to link back to a local controller or up a level to a factory wide bus network.
